SecureDrop Usage Guide

SecureDrop lets you anonymously and securely send sensitive files or text. Create self-destructing links to share information one-time with recipients.

Step 1: Access SecureDrop

Select 'SecureDrop' from the 'Products' menu in the navigation, or enter /drop in the address bar. No login required.

Step 2: Enter Secret Content

Type your secret content in the text field. You can securely deliver passwords, API keys, personal information, and more. File attachments are also supported.

Step 3: Set Security Options

Set expiration time: choose from 1 hour, 24 hours, or 7 days. Limit view count so the content can only be viewed a specified number of times. Add an optional password for double protection.

Step 4: Generate Share Link

Click 'Create' to generate a unique share link. Copy this link and send it to the recipient. If you set a password, send it through a separate secure channel.

Step 5: How Recipients Open It

Recipients open the link in their browser. If a password was set, they enter it to view the content. Content is decrypted in the browser and auto-destroyed based on settings (expiry/view count).

Security Precautions

Never send the link and password through the same channel (e.g., link via email, password via messenger). For highly sensitive data, set view count to 1. Keep expiration as short as possible.

SecureDrop Tips

  • -Setting view count to 1 when sharing API keys or passwords is safest.
  • -Ask recipients to confirm immediately after sending the link.
  • -Expired links are automatically deleted—no management needed.
